El Salvador
El Salvador – the smallest Central American country, offering an amazing diversity and incredible places to visit.
When I first entered the country, I stopped at this insane hot spring waterfall right after the border. It blew my mind and is to date one of my very favorite hidden gems on this planet!
Not only are there multiple waterfalls located in El Salvador, also ancient ruins, volcanoes and beautiful beaches! I did also visit many beautiful lakes and hot springs.
This Central American country is known for it´s world class surfing and the tourism ministry is putting a lot of effort into the development of the coastal towns.
And the best: It is not as touristy as other countries in Central America and a real gem! Make sure to visit this beautiful country before it gets very popular and is overrun by tourists.
I loved my trip through El Salvador and can only recommend visiting.
General Information & Good To Know before visiting El Salvador
Language:
Spanish is the official language. In my experience, more locals here speak English than in most other Central American countries.
Currency:
The official currency is the US dollar.
Weather:
It is possible to visit throughout the year. Dry season and best time to visit is from November to April. Rainy season lasts from May to October.
Safety:
I felt very safe throughout the country. Not so long ago, it was considered one of the most dangerous countries in Central America. However due to recent actions by the government, thousands of people have been put into jail and it is now considered one of the safest countries in Central America. As always, use common sense and trust your gut and you will likely stay out of any trouble.
